The minimalist project management system

Lightweight project management methodology P3.express
launches free interactive manual.

P3.express, the open project management methodology published under a Creative
Commons, launches a free interactive manual with the support of the European Union. A
consortium of partners led by PTCoE has worked for the last 7 months on the development
of a free interactive manual to encourage small and medium sized enterprises to learn and
use project management skills to increase productivity and efficiëncy.

The majority of the strategic activities that SMEs carry out in order to develop their business,
expand their market presence or increase their efficiency could be considered as projects.
However, in many cases, no project methodologies are used and those involved in leading
these projects use intuitive and ad hoc methods that are often inefficient.

“The lack of basic project management skills can have a negative effect on productivity and
profitability.” Says Geraldine Courtenay, Project Manager at Sligo Chamber of Commerce
and Industry. “Fundamental standards such as PRINCE2 and PMBOK Guide are too
complex, time-consuming and costly for many SMEs. Learning a light weight and simple
project management method such as P3.express can help boost efficiency”.

With the financial support of the European Union’s Erasmus+ program the consortium wants
to educate professionals who are involved in leading project management in SMEs about
P3.express in a cost-effective way by providing accessible learning materials. “It is important
that we provide diverse learning opportunities to SMEs,” says Maurits Vandeplas, director of
Van Haren Learning Solutions. “Next to the manual the consortium is building a free
eLearning course to reach as many people as possible”. The partners hope to train in more
15 european countries by 2022.

About P3.express

P3.express is an open, agile project management methodology published under a Creative
Commons license. The methodology doesn’t reinvent the wheel but uses the existing
resources such as PRINCE2®, PMBOK® Guide, and DSDM®. It’s a simple, easy, and
minimalist framework that follows the 80/20 rule. It aims for 80% of the benefits of a
well-formed project management system by 20% of its effort; and, should support 80% of the
normal projects with a method that is only 20% of the size of a fully general one.
Erasmus+, the EU’s program to support education, training, youth, and sport in Europe, has
co-funded a consortium of 5 international partners to encourage SMEs to upskill and utilize
P3.express project management in their businesses.
