Training & Certification Landscape & Product Itinerary

We aim to release the updated BIAN Foundation in Q2, followed by one new course per quarter.

The current BIAN Banking Architecture Foundation will be revised and restructured into two certifications:

• BIAN Foundation
• BIAN EA Practitioner Certification

This update will allow non-architects to benefit from BIAN without requiring extensive architecture knowledge.

The BIAN Foundation exam is expected to launch at the beginning of Q2 and is based on a one-day course. Additionally, an official eLearning version of this course will be available in Q3.

There will be a six-month transition period during which both the current and updated Foundation certifications will remain active. After this period, the BIAN Banking Architecture Foundation will be retired by the end of 2025.

The current BIAN Banking Architecture Foundation exam will remain valid, as the new BIAN Foundation exam will contain less examinable content.

The BIAN Practitioner Courses & Certification
All Practitioner Courses and Certifications will be based on 16 hours, including both theory and practice, with a single case study element that can be leveraged across all Practitioner Courses.

The Practitioner Certification can only be achieved through training with one of the Accredited Education Partners.
The exams will be based on mini-cases and consist of multiple-choice questions.
All courses are expected to be released between Q3 and Q4.

The BIAN EA Practitioner course and Certification partially cover the content.
The Banking Data Practitioner will replace the current ‘BIAN Data Architecture & Design Specialist Certification.’ It is expected to be released in Q3/Q4.
The Banking Developers & API Practitioner is a completely new course that will be released.

BIAN training accreditation update

As of 01-01-2025, the following increased regulations will apply to BIAN training and BIAN training accreditation.

Accreditation requirements:

To be an Accredited Partner, a party must always pay the training license fee.
Training Partners need to have a quality management system audited by Van Haren.
To be an Accredited Partner, a party needs to have qualified trainers.

Proven didactic experience (such as a degree or years of experience in providing training).
Field experience (proven experience in banking architecture).
The highest certification level in BIAN (for all practitioners when available).
An exam score that is 10% higher than the required passing level, in whichever course they teach.
Training regulations:

Only BIAN AEPs (Accredited Education Partners) can conduct commercial training on BIAN, using the BIAN trademark.
Only the BIAN Foundation exam can be taken by anyone (e.g., self-study). The BIAN Practitioner exams can only be obtained through Accredited Education Partner courses.
AEPs (or anyone else) cannot offer competing BIAN courses based on the official certification courses and are audited not to do so.
The official training material must be purchased by each partner, per candidate, and per course.
New BIAN training partners must be a BIAN AEP for at least two years before they can offer the BIAN Practitioner courses.
