Certifications Update FAQ
How long will the version 2 (current) certifications remain available for purchase?
→ Exam vouchers are valid for one year after purchase. You can take the exam for the version that was purchased, as long as the voucher is still valid.
How long can you keep purchasing the version 2 exam?
→ The BIAN Foundation exam version 2 will remain available for purchase until 31 July 2026. If you buy an exam voucher before that date, the above process applies (voucher valid for one year). Version 2 courses will cease after this date, unless books were purchased before 31 July 2026.
→ The BIAN Data Architecture Specialist exam will stop as of 31 July 2026 and will automatically become the BIAN Data Architecture Practitioner exam. All previously purchased exam vouchers for the Specialist exam will remain valid, but upon passing you will receive the BIAN Data Architecture Practitioner certification.
How long will the current (version 2) certifications remain valid?
→ The certification is valid for 2 years after the certification date. A revised recertification policy is currently being developed. Until it is released, recertification is available at a 25% discount, but it is not strictly enforced at the moment. Please email solutions@vanharen.net to request the discounted rate.
If I have the current BIAN Foundation (version 2) certification, does this meet the prerequisite for the BIAN Practitioner course?
→ Yes, it does. You can take the BIAN Practitioner course if you have the BIAN Foundation (version 2) certification.
If I have the current BIAN Foundation (version 2) certification, should I take the BIAN Foundation (version 3) course again?
→ No, you do not have to, and it is not recommended. There will be many similarities between the BIAN Foundation (version 2) exam and the BIAN Banking Architecture Practitioner exam. However, there are more differences in the training content.
What is the difference between the Data Architecture Specialist and the BIAN Data Architecture Practitioner? Should I retake the exam or course if I already completed the Specialist?
→ You do not need to recertify. The BIAN Data Architecture Specialist has been renamed to the BIAN Data Architecture Practitioner, and you will hold that title going forward. The differences are minor, are specified in the updated syllabus, and are included in the revised course.

About the course
The Foundation training builds a solid conceptual and practical foundation for working with BIAN. Participants learn the structure, principles, and consistent application of the BIAN Service Landscape across business, solution, and data architecture.
The BIAN Banking Architecture Foundation Certification will be allocated by passing the exam. This is the official BIAN Foundation level certification by the Banking Industry Architecture Network (BIAN) and is carried out and certified by Van Haren Learning Solutions.
The BIAN certification is intended for enterprise, solution, business and or information architects. Additionally, consultants and advisors in the banking- and financial services industry. The BIAN Certification Exam will test the delegates on their knowledge about the BIAN standard. This is the common framework for banking interoperability issues.
By successfully passing the BIAN Foundation exam delegates will achieve the
BIAN Banking Architecture Foundation Certificate which ensures that they have been audited and have successfully mastered the required BIAN Foundation level.
Being certified in The BIAN Foundation level acknowledges that a certified professional has mastered the BIAN Standard and is aware that financial institutions can be modelled in a standard way, which enables maximum interoperability and re-use and minimum IT integration cost. A BIAN Foundation certified person is able to recognize and apply this to other financial services providers.
This includes their ability to describe and recognize certain knowledge about BIAN such as: the benefits BIAN provides to financial services providers, the BIAN design principles and artefacts, the abilities to reduce integration cost and maximize interoperability.
The BIAN certification exam is intended for professionals in the financial services industry such as: enterprise- and solution architects, consultants, that all operate in the financial services industry.

About the Course
The BIAN Data Architect Practitioner Certification will be awarded by passing the exam. This is one of the official BIAN practitioner Certifications by the Banking Industry Architecture Network (BIAN) and is carried out and certified by Van Haren Cerify. When passing you will be awarded the role of Certified BIAN Data Practitioner in Data Architect & Design.
The BIAN Data Architect practitioner Certification exam will test the delegates on their knowledge of the BIAN Data Reference Architecture for the Financial Industry.
Certified BIAN BIAN Data practitioner have the ability to realize the added value of the BIAN Object Model. They have the required knowledge and understanding of the general design principles and elements of BIAN’s Reference Architecture for the Financial Industry.
